2022

23 December 2023

This year was a year of slowly getting back to my normal nomadic habits after a couple of years of staying put.

I spent a lot of time at the lake house, including preparing for the demolition of the old house.

At the end of the summer I spent 3 weeks in Milwaukee visiting Amanda and Ben and Rowan. I also got to meet a friend and coworker, Todd, in person for the first time.

Towards the end of the year I met someone new.

Granny passed away this summer. I was lucky to have spent a lot of time with her over the last few years. She loved being at the lake, watching a sunset on the dock.

The old lake house right before it was bulldozed to make room for the new house to be built.

The original cabin (the shorter structure on the right) was built in the 1940s by my great-grandparents. It was a single room that was later split up into 4 bedrooms.

The structure on the left was built around 1990 and contained a combination kitchen + dining room + living room, plus a bathroom.

I have many memories in this house and I’m excited for all the memories I’ll make in the new house.

This is my friend Todd. He and I work together but we live in different places. This was the first time we met in person after a year of Google Meet being our only source of interaction. We walked around the waterfront in Milwaukee, where I was visiting the Smiths for a few weeks.

This year I got really into making music. I was tired of having to plug and unplug equipment every time I wanted to play. This is a patch bay, which cleanly connects all of my gear’s inputs and outputs in one place (the back of the patch bay) so that I can sit down and play with as little friction as possible. Additionally I can route signals from one piece of equipment for another to, for instance, add effects (the front of the patch bay). The patch bay is mounted in a rack case that sits on my desk so it’s easily accessible.
