Stop two on my year off travels was Stockholm, Sweden! I was here for three nights and had a lovely (and pricy) time.
After getting off the plane from Iceland, we walked into the city to find lunch and were welcomed by …pink geese?
Margaretha Krook was a well-known Swedish actress who thought that all of the statues around town were just cold memories. When she died, a statue in her memory was erected next to The Royal Dramatic Theater, but with a catch. All year-round, 37°c/98°f water is pumped through the statue to make it warm and approachable.
The Vasa is a Viking ship that sunk on its maiden voyage because of balast issues. It was raised out of the Stockholm Harbor 300 years later.
This was a short walk from the hostel where we stayed.
Stockholm’s subway system has a number of stations containing interesting art.
More subway station art.
